CHILDREN at a Bradford primary school have taken part in a toy workshop aimed at getting children away from electronic games and devices, and playing more games with their families.

The event took place at Peel Park Primary School in Undercliffe, with staff from The Totally Awesome toy shop bringing a range of games for pupils to try out.

A range of different board games were brought along for children to try out and to work together as a team to play by shop owners Lisa Fox and Aamir Yuduf.

Tom Nowakowski, learning mentor at Peel Park, said: “I’d heard about Lisa’s school workshops and contacted her immediately.

"Although it’s out of her local area I’m so pleased she agreed to include Peel Park as part of her project. The children have had an inspiring learning experience and the feedback is totally awesome.”

Ms Fox has been delivering board game workshops in Calderdale, and this was her first foray in Bradford.

She said: “During my workshops children learn about structure, rules, memory skills, dexterity, teamwork, engagement and social interaction."

The children were also given the opportunity to invent their own board game, and were given a goody bag of demo games for inspiration, with their invention going into a competition run by Green Board Games.

Binnie Cunningham, from the company, said: "We think it’s amazing how Lisa has taken this to so many local schools.

"Board games are making a massive revival and as well as the old classics, there are so many educational games on the market that are fun to play.”
