A NEW pre-school nursery could open its doors in Low Moor if plans are given the go-ahead.

The proposals for 26-place nursery have been lodged with Bradford Council and detail it would be located on the corner of Hanworth Road and Common Road, off the major Huddersfield Road route between Odsal and Wyke and close to Hill Top C of E Primary School, which is across the main road.

Documents submitted with the application say the site is currently vacant green space and surrounded by light industrial buildings.

“The site has been designed to accommodate the process of dropping off children and picking them up later in the day,” says the application.

“On that basis there are to use a new proposed entrance point off of Common Road.

“On busy periods on-street parking can be utilised on Common Road.”

It adds: “We also intend to encourage and support parents to walk by providing a buggy store for pushchairs protected by a canopy. which can be accessed directly from Common

Road via an existing footpath.”

The application says the existing building within the site is a “typical light industrial warehouse unit” which has been split into three and includes parking.

It outlines: “Our proposed unit will be a single storey structure with a mezzanine floor with a mono-pitched arched roof.

“This will be positioned to complement the existing building lines whilst preserving the surrounding green space and providing off-street parking facilities.”

The building will have a “modern feel”, finished with timber cladding panels and a pre-fabricated facia and roof system.

“The layout has been designed so that the entrance is to the east of the site, which leads to a lobby area for coats and shoes with all amenity areas facing the north (facing the existing warehouse building),” the application says.

“This then flows to the floor space which is divided up into sections of activity and age

which benefits from an outlook over Common Road

“The mezzanine will consist of a staff office/meeting room and a reading area for the older children.”

Floor plans submitted with the application show there would be a number of different sections to the nursery with an art area, wet area, role play area and a dining and seating area.

An external play area is also shown.

The new nursery would create six full-time roles and one part-time role.

The hours of opening are listed as being between 7.30am to 6pm.

A determination deadline for the application is set for Monday, December 10 this year.
