AN area outside the Broadway Shopping Centre will soon be home to a Christmas tree and "ceiling of light" as part of the city's Christmas celebrations.

Work has been ongoing for much of the month preparing the site on Broadway, where the former Timpsons cabin once stood. So far bosses of the shopping centre have only said the works were for an "exciting festive activity" with few details announced.

But a new Bradford Council report into city centre regeneration, which will be discussed at the Regeneration and Environment Scrutiny Committee on Tuesday, has shed more light into the site's imminent future.

The report says Broadway's owners, Meyer Bergman are repaving the area before installing a Christmas Tree in front of The Light Cinema, along with festive decorations on lamp posts and a new "wayfaring totem" outside the centre. There will also be a “ceiling of light” installed on Charles Street.

The site around the tree will also be given a deep clean.

Broadway has previously revealed that its Christmas Lights switch on will take place on November 10.

Bradford Council is also providing 15 stalls for a festive "Made Bradford" market outside the shopping centre on the same day.
