A WINWICK-BASED charity is calling on the public to help fund a sports and wellbeing festival to support adults over the age of 18 with learning disabilities and autism.

Creating Adventures has been shortlisted in the Tesco’s Bags of Help Scheme where customers are invited to vote for a community initiative or charity.

The charity is a lifeline to adults with complex intellectual disabilities who often find it difficult to access activities.

Customers can ask for a blue token when they have completed their shop in Tesco on Winwick Road or in one of the smaller Tesco Express stores across the town.

Following the vote, the project that received the most votes in its area will receive a grant of up to £4,000, second place receiving up to £2,000 and third place up to £1,000.

Jenny Allcock, who set up the charity, said: “We’re a small charity trying to offer more activities for adults with autism and learning disabilities.

“The latest project is an active mind and body festival next spring in partnership with Warrington Wolves Foundation offering yoga, dance and other alternative activities to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of adults in our community.”

Co-operative food store customers can also help to make a difference to the charity as part of the Local Causes Fund.

More than £2,000 has been raised through the scheme over the past 12 months.

Jenny said: “There is still time to vote for us if you are a Co-op member using your online account. If you’re not a member, for just £1 you can become one in your store. You can vote for us if you live within 15 miles of Warrington.

“We are over the moon and extremely thankful to the Co-op and its members.”
