A CHUNK of human skin was found at the scene of a machete attack that saw a man’s leg hacked to the bone, a jury was told.

The severed skin was trapped under a car door after a violent incident that led to armed police officers being deployed. Two vehicles were extensively damaged and splattered in blood and a crossbow and broken bolt abandoned in the street.

Aron Barton, 28, of Bolton Road, Bradford, denies wounding Louis Waddington with intent to do him grievous bodily harm in St John Street, Brighouse, on August 13 last year, and an alternative lesser offence of unlawful wounding.

Barton allegedly attacked Mr Waddington with a machete, severely damaging his hand and slicing his right leg to the bone.

He also pleads not guilty to threatening Mr Waddington and James Casey with a crossbow and assaulting Shonagh Waddington by beating her.

During the trial at Bradford Crown Court, Barton was accused of going “tooled up” to take the law into his own hands after his car was damaged.

The trouble was sparked after Miss Waddington accused Barton of kicking her in an argument at his then address in Angus Avenue, Wyke.

Barton denies injuring Miss Waddington, saying she “set him up” because she was bitter about his new relationship. He told the police that after he gave her a lift home his car damaged by a baseball bat.

Barton said he went back to Brighouse that afternoon to sort out payment for his damaged vehicle.

He denied taking any weapons to the scene and said he saw a crossbow, a Samurai sword and a knife lying on a wall. A nail gun was pointed towards him by a teenager, and his friend, Dominic Crossley, was stabbed in the leg by Louis Waddington, he alleged.

He picked up the crossbow but put it down because it was unloaded and he did not know how to use it.

He said he merely “grappled” with Mr Waddington.

The trial continues.
