ACID attacks can have a long-lasting or life-changing impact on survivors.
Here, Dr Almas Ahmed shares her advice for what to do if you are caught up in an attack of this kind and what you can do to help.
Bradford doctor creates new make-up to resist acid attacks
- Start with clean, fresh water and plenty of it.
- Call for help. If there are any clothes that are not stuck to the body, remove them.
- If any clothing is stuck to the body, do not touch it as you will damage the skin.
- Wait until the ambulance crew arrives and do not stop using cold, fresh water.
- Don’t use anything else to try and neutralise the acid as it will cause damage.
