A NEW Crimestoppers campaign has been set up thanks to funding from Bradford Council in Shipley.

The campaign will be launches at Shipley Library at 10am on Saturday, October 20.

It is designed to raise the profile of Crimestoppers in key locations in Shipley which are affected by crime.

Residents will be shown how to report criminal activity while staying anonymous.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, executive member for neighbourhoods and community safety, said: “Crimestoppers is a really good way for concerned members of the public to help the authorities tackle the scourge of crime.

“People are often afraid to give information about the criminals in their area because of the fear of reprisals.

“With Crimestoppers, who have specially-trained operatives to make sure service users retain their anonymity, people need not fear criminals will find out who they are.

“I would urge everyone concerned about crime in Shipley to support this campaign.”

Gemma Gibbs, Yorkshire regional manager for Crimestoppers, said: “We understand that some people don’t feel, for one reason or another, that they can speak to the police.

“We want to reassure people that, as a charity which takes information 100 per cent anonymously, that we are here for you.

"We never take any personal details, and no-one will know you ever spoke to us.

“We want people to speak up, while staying safe and being an ambassador for their community.

"So please contact us if you have any information.”
