A BRADFORD singer will see his name up in lights this Saturday after making it through to the X-Factor live shows.

Danny Tetley, 37, originally of Shipley, was on screen last night as he performed at judge, Ayda Williams', LA home for a chance to make it through to the final stage.

Viewers watched as Mrs Williams revealed the Bradfordian would be part of her "Overs" category, alongside Giovanni Spano, Janice Robinson and Olatunji Yearwood.

Mr Tetley's journey to possible stardom hasn't been easy.

The X-Factor contestant was born with a cleft lip and palate and his mother was told he may never be able to talk properly.

But, after eight operations on his mouth, Mr Tetley persevered and has now found himself a fan in Robbie Williams who was impressed with his rendition of Jennifer Hudson's "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going."

The X-Factor judge said: "You need a Rocky and I think Danny Tetley is a pure underdog story.

"You know, there's millions of people watching this show and I hope that millions of people will get behind him and I think they will because you can't fail just to like the man and root for him."

He added: "I think, out of all the contestants, as a punter which I also am of this TV show, there's no one else on this show that you're going to root for more than him and he deserves that because he's a wonderful man."

Mr Tetley is no stranger to on screen appearances and has a colourful history in the music industry.

As a youngster, the Bradford lad took part in the first ever series of Pop Idol making it through to the top 75 and then the following year he auditioned for Popstar: The Rivals.

The former Salt Grammar School pupil presented his own 10 minute segment on Channel Four's Big Breakfast Show in 2001 for a time and most recently, he appeared in ITV comedy, Benidorm.

Mr Tetley has always remembered his roots and only seven days ago he was at Odsal Stadium to see his beloved Bradford Bulls get promoted.

Come Saturday, Mr Tetley's attention will turn to showcasing his unique singing style on X-Factors first live show.

He has an army of fans and gave a message to them on his Instagram page on Sunday.

He said: "So guys, fantastic news, yes, I made it through to the live shows. So watch next Saturday for my first performance - it's now crunch time. Vote Team Tetley. Vote Danny Tetley. Thank you again guys, love you all so much. Thank you."

You can watch how the Bradfordian gets on at 8pm this Saturday on ITV.
