HISTORIAN and Bradford Civil War siege expert Malcolm Hanson will return to Bolling Hall this weekend.

Bolling Hall was where the Earl of Newcastle, William Cavendish, made his headquarters when the siege took place in 1643, and is said to be haunted by a ghostly woman in white.

Mr Hanson said: "I was at Bolling Hall earlier in the tour, and there was a great turnout.

"As I told the story, we toured the hall together, and as a treat, the staff and I ended up packing them all into the ‘Ghost Room’ for the climax.

“Bradford suffered greatly in the period 1642-3, but the townsfolk kept up their spirits, and when the king sent armies to wipe them out, twice they turned the tables, and the exact opposite happened.

“We owe our ancestors everything for standing up and triumphing over a king who eventually had to send in 12,000 soldiers to take the town.”

Mr Hanson will be at Bolling Hall this Sunday (October 14) at 2pm.
