WEST Yorkshire Police recorded the highest number of disability hate crimes in the country last year.
Police figures obtained by the charity United Response show the number of offences has increased by two thirds in the last year in the region and staff are being trained to spot the signs.
The figures, totalling 536, were obtained ahead of National Hate Crime Awareness Week, which runs until Saturday, October 20.
