STUDENTS from a Bradford school were given a special insight into the Houses of Parliament at a recent visit to Westminster.

The group, from Laisterdyke Leadership Academy, were welcomed for a debate and workshop by Bradford East MP Imran Hussain, and discussed issues such as the suffragette movement.

Year 11 student Mohammed Rafaqat said: “It was a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to experience the democratic process within our country first hand.

“It also helped to raise aspirations and gave our pupils a great experience that they will cherish forever.

“I am grateful to all those involved for making this a reality for the pupils of Laisterdyke.”

Mr Hussain added: “It’s always a pleasure to welcome pupils visiting Parliament.

“It’s fantastic to see so many young people who are not only interested in politics, but who want to take an active role in the decision making process on issues that affect their lives and others.”
