MANNINGHAM Allstars are appealing for more volunteers to help them take their football coaching programme to children in the district.

Volunteers are needed on Saturdays at the Manningham Football Academy based at Manningham Sports Centre, Carlisle Road. The group is looking for people who are enthusiastic and want to support their local community.

Coaches will be mentored by Sean Regan, a West Riding County FA mentor, and there will be an opportunity to learn as well as coach

The youngsters have visited local football clubs to get them more interested and on recent weekends have spent days at Eccleshill and Campion clubs.

They were invited to Eccleshill United as guests of the club by manager Sean Regan for their FA Vase game against Hebburn Town.

Allstars chairman Jerry Hussain said: β€œIt’s great that these young kids can come and visit such a great set-up which is so close to where they live. Sean really laid the VIP treatment out for the kids and they responded by cheering on the team throughout the game. Eccleshill are a really diverse club and the players, staff, club members all act as great role models for these young boys and girls.”

Spokesman Anil Nawaz said: "We are doing a really good job with our community and team by taking them to grounds as well as building relationships. One thing we are lacking is volunteers."

The academy celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2016 having attracted thousands of players, aged between five and 16, through its doors over the years.

The academy holds open football sessions every Saturday, and sessions for its Under 10s, Under 12s and Under 14s teams every Sunday.

Interested people are asked to message Jerry on 07790 874122 or Barry on 07498 561770 to register their interest.
