BRADFORD’S undefeated world heavyweight champion Umar Khan is still the titleholder after defending his belt for the first time in his hometown.
Umar Khan, 24, from Manningham, defeated challenger Umar Khan from Luton with ease in front of a crowd of around 1,500 people at the Bradford Trinity Sports Hall at the University of Bradford’s Trinity Green campus.
It was the first time Mr Khan, who won the belt two years ago after defeating the former champion who was also his coach, has defended his crown in Bradford, after numerous successful defences elsewhere.
Yasser Ali, a friend of Mr Khan, said: “It was an easy win, but the other guy trained very hard.
“He gave it everything but Umar is too much.”
Mr Khan is the world champion in Beeni, a form of arm wrestling popular in Southern Asia.
With his victory in front of a hometown crowd, Mr Khan is hoping to inspire more young people to get involved in the sport, to get young people off the streets and doing something more beneficial.
