TWO Bradford apprentices have been celebrating success after their hard work was recognised at a regional awards ceremony.

Muhammad Uddin and Isobel Moorhouse, who both work at Yorkshire Housing, were nominees at the Yorkshire and the Humber Apprenticeship Awards.

Muhammad won the Intermediate Apprentice of the Year Award, while Isobel was highly commended in the Advanced Apprentice of the Year category.

Joining the housing provider straight from school in the benefits and advice team, within 12 months Muhammad has achieved Level 2 qualifications in business administration and has secured a role as a customer complaints apprentice, enabling him to study to Level 3.

In his role, he has helped roll out a new complaints system, mentored younger apprentices and trained staff. He will now go on to the national finals in London.

He said: “Winning the apprentice of the year award is a massive achievement.

"Apprenticeships are a really good opportunity to start your career. Yorkshire Housing has enabled me to develop my skills and abilities, by giving me hands-on experience across the business. Hard work and determination equals big rewards.”

Since joining in 2015, Isobel started as an apprentice surveyor and has since completed a Level 3 apprenticeship in property maintenance surveying, achieving 100 per cent in parts of her qualifications, and also received the Chief Executive Award.

She said: “Being highly commended is such an honour, I could not have done it without all the help and support of my co-workers at Yorkshire Housing.

"My apprenticeship has given me the skills and confidence to pursue a career within the housing sector and I have been able to follow up my apprenticeship with a full time role within the company which I am enjoying immensely.

"I feel as though the skills I have gained are something only an apprenticeship can offer.”

Kiran Olak, Yorkshire Housing’s senior people development coordinator, added: “We are incredibly proud that Muhammad and Isobel have been successful at these prestigious apprentice awards.

"They are a real credit to Yorkshire Housing and have done so much to champion apprenticeships.

"I would encourage anyone interested in becoming a Yorkshire Housing apprentice to get in touch with us.”

The awards were hosted by the National Apprenticeship Service, recognising apprentices who made a significant contribution to their workplaces.
