COUNCILLORS have refused to grant a temporary event licence for a music event in a Shipley yard.

Yesterday the Bradford District Licensing Panel discussed an application by Matthew Brear to sell alcohol and provide entertainment at the Builders Yard, Off Saltaire Road - behind a block that includes The Imperial Chinese restaurant.

The license would apply from October 11 to 13, between 5pm and midnight these days.

The item was brought before the panel, meeting at City Hall yesterday, after environmental health officers raised concerns over the noise impact of the proposed event.

Environmental Health officer Brian Fairclough told the panel he had received noise complaints from the Saltaire Road area. He said: "The Builder's Yard is an outdoor event, there is no way to prevent noise. It is surrounded on three sides by buildings which will reflect the noise and amplify it."

He said the noise would be "funnelled" towards houses on nearby Taunton Street.

Members voted against granting the licence.
