A PROPOSED housing development on an Idle field has been approved by councillors.

An application for 26 houses on land of Westfield Lane was approved by members of Bradford Council's Regulatory and Appeals Committee yesterday.

Submitted by Yelcon Ltd, the scheme had attracted numerous objections from neighbours, who claimed the development would cause traffic problems on a road they said was already a busy rat run. Neighbours of the proposed homes also said the properties would be too close to their houses.

Councillor Alun Griffiths (Lib Dem, Idle and Thackley) said: "I have been aware for many years of residents' concerns about the amount of traffic between Wrose and Idle."

But highways officers said the development would only lead to 18 extra car journeys during the peak traffic hours - not enough traffic to cause any major highways concerns.

Members approved the plans on the condition the applicants met with neighbours of the site to discuss a planned "buffer" of trees and vegetation between the new homes and existing properties.

Five houses will be two bed, and classed as affordable, with the rest being four bed properties.
