THE COUNTY’S Police and Crime Commissioner has moved to reassure Bradford residents after two people were killed by out of control drivers on the same day.

A man was killed in Bradford Moor when he was allegedly run over and assaulted on Wednesday, while a 30-year-old motorcyclist died when he was involved in a crash in Sandy Lane.

Mark Burns-Williamson said, while the crimes are undoubtedly serious, there is no wider threat to the public.

He said: “From what I know about the Bradford Moor crash it does appear to be targeted against gangs who are involved in crime.

“None of us want to see this, but I don’t think there’s a wider threat to the general public.

“We will investigate and bring to justice the people who are involved in these crimes.”

Mr Burns-Williamson told the Telegraph & Argus he has been receiving regular updates about the police investigation and said operation already in place to tackle dangerous drivers in Bradford will continue.

He added: “These are ongoing investigations and they are being investigated as we speak, but clearly it’s concerning that these types of incidents are occurring.

“We have had Operation Steerside in place for some time and that will continue because that’s addressed at tackling criminality on the roads.

“We have specialist serious crime teams that are investigating these incidents, so the message from me is we will absolutely investigate these people who get involved in this type of criminality because it is unacceptable.

“The police are providing lots of reassurance in these areas to address any concerns the public might have.”
