THE M62 was at a standstill near Bradford on Thursday night after all lanes were closed following a 'police incident'.

Lanes were closed in both directions between J27 (M621, Birstall) and J28 (Tingley).

Highways England said the eastbound carriageway reopened shortly before 10pm, and that the incident was now over.

Drivers were warned that several vehicles had broken down in the trapped traffic, but these have now been moved.

Westbound traffic was earlier being diverted off the M62 at J27.

One motorist who had been stuck on the westbound carriageway since 8.15pm said people were getting out of their cars, while another described it as 'a car park'.

The J28 westbound exit slip road, which was due to be closed overnight until 6am, was opened to allow congestion to clear.
