A BRADFORD nurse who spent almost five decades working for the NHS has spoken about her long and varied career at the most recent meeting of the Huddersfield Institute of Advanced Motorists.

Denise Adlard was invited to speak to the group about “Bedpans & False Teeth, 47 Years in the NHS”.

The audience heard how Denise was four-years-old when she first told her parents she was going to be a nurse.

True to her word age 17, she started at Bradford Royal Infirmary in Duke of York House.

Her first task was sorting out the laundry cupboard, but her career saw her work as a staff nurse, district nurse,a midwife in Holme Wood, and teacher of nursing.

The group’s next meeting will be held on Monday, November 5 at the Royal British Legion Club in Scar Lane, Golcar.

Doors will be open from 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

The group will also host their Annual General Meeting followed by a quiz.
