LATEST: 'Butchery in broad daylight' - murder probe after Bradford Moor man dies

A MAN is believed to have died after being run over and attacked in Bradford Moor yesterday.

He was one of two people who were taken to hospital by ambulance after being assaulted in Sandford Road, off Barkerend Road, Bradford.

He was named locally as Amriz Iqbal.

He is believed to have had three children - a 16-year-old, a two-year-old and an 18-month-old.

A concern local resident said: "For something like this to happen in broad daylight it scares the life out of us.

"Our worry is retaliatory attacks. We don't want to let our kids play in the street.

"It may have been a targeted attack but it was absolute madness. You think 'what if I had been caught up in the middle of it'. Would you be brave enough to step in or would you look after your kid with you.

"They need to be put away for a long time."

Officers were called at 1.10pm yesterday to a report of a collision in which two pedestrians had been injured, with the vehicle involved failing to stop at the scene.

Police said it was further reported that one or both of the men had also been assaulted by the occupants of the vehicle.

Both men were to hospital and enquiries were ongoing.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service said one man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries while the other man was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary with less serious injuries.

Two air ambulances attended the scene, one from the North West Air Ambulance service while the other was a Yorkshire Air Ambulance, but land ambulances were used to take the injured men to hospital.

Coun Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “We are aware of this incident and our thoughts are with the people who have been hurt.

“We are working with the police in any way we can to help their investigation into this matter and we would urge the community to remain calm and let the authorities do their work.

“We would urge anyone who has any information which can help in this investigation to contact the police as soon as possible.”

Councillor Mohammed Shafiq, who is away from Bradford at the moment, said he had been contacted by people about the incident which he believed involved a local resident.

He said: “I hope the resident is OK. My sympathies are with the victim and their family.”
