FALLFEST’S resident theatre company Falling Stars is branching out from its Glusburn base.

The group of professional and amateur actors are taking this year’s play, The Last Resort, on a tour that will take in Lothersdale, Skipton, Ilkley and Bingley.

The tour will raise cash for travelling further afield – the group hopes to write and produce its own unique performance to take the Edinburgh Fringe Festival next summer.

The production of Chris Owen’s play The Last Resort was performed twice at Glusburn Arts Centre last month as part of the annual Fallfest arts and community festival.

Falling Stars director Beccy Durham said the theatre company was known for its immersive style of performance.

He said: “We involve the audience at the heart of the action and make them feel as if they are experiencing life with the characters.”

The Last Resort explores the day in the life of a bustling, northern seaside resort town.

It begins in the early morning with the dawn milk float and finishes on the cliffs, high above the town.

Beccy said: “The piece weaves together the stories, attitudes and conflicts of a variety of characters from surfboard dudes to cynical pensioners. This is an affectionate portrait of life in a contemporary British resort.”

When The Last Resort was performed at Fallfest recently, members of the audience, who’d seen two previous Falling Stars productions, raved about it.

One watcher said: “All the actors take several parts and all the characters are totally believable. Simple but very effective staging. All of life’s emotions in a seaside snapshot. A brilliant rollercoaster ride.”

The Last Resort can be seen at Ilkley Playhouse on November 23, Skipton Little Theatre on January 26, Lothersdale Village Hall on February 2, and Bingley Arts Centre on February 21.

Beccy said fundraising had already begun for the Edinburgh Fringe project.

She said: “We are looking for local companies who might like to sponsor us for this performance. We would be very happy to offer our drama/performance skills in return.
