BRADFORD'S firework chaos continued over the weekend and into Sunday night after multiple attacks in one area.

The Round Thorn pub and a car felt the effects of fireworks being thrown on Thornton Road yesterday evening, with one man left feeling intimidated.

Emergency services were also targeted and a video (below) shows the building chaos and smoke rising from an area where some fireworks have been let off.

William Bentley was driving home along the busy road at around 8pm when what he describes as a group of about 30 people began shooting fireworks at his car, near to The Range shop.

He said: "I stopped in the road safely to turn around to get away from them."

But, as panic ensued, a separate vehicle and Mr Bentley's car collided as the other vehicle tried to overtake, leaving him and the other driver stranded.

Mr Bentley said: "As we got out we were surrounded by about 30 people with fireworks. Police were rung and attended. They told me they were outnumbered  and to get out of here.

"They expected me to drive the car when the wheel couldn't turn properly. Police left me stranded, still getting fireworks shot all over the place."

The firework yobs were said to have also thrown the explosives at police when they arrived, with one exploding underneath a police van.

Passing ambulances were also said to have been targeted as well.

Mr Bentley's mother-in-law, Tracy Mills, went to pick him up from the nearby KFC where he'd managed to push his undriveable vehicle.

She said his £15,000 car had its door crushed onto the front tire and they had to hire a pick-up truck to take it home.

Mrs Mills added: "They were aiming everywhere, even firing at innocent people's houses and one person was shouting telling another to get the kids off the street back into the houses."

They left the area just after 9pm, but Mrs Mills said fireworks were still going off.

A member of the management team from nearby The Round Thorn pub also said it was targeted, as it was this time last year.

The spokesperson said they had a firework thrown into the pub on Friday night as well as on the evening Mr Bentley was caught in the chaos.

They said: "I locked the front door where the firework had come from. They were in the middle of the road and they shot one up the road and two cars crashed.

"They shot one at me and were firing them when I was talking to police. They're not bothered about them - we need a higher police presence."

Only last week a video emerged of three youngsters throwing fireworks at passing cars on the same road.

The Round Thorn pub spokesperson added: "After about half an hour, police left - the danger was still ongoing."
