JERSEY designing, bicycle-powered smoothie making and Scalextric racing were just some of the attractions taking place as Queensbury Queens Cycling Club laid on an event in the city centre this afternoon.

The event was organised to mark one year before the UCI Road World Championships take place in the district and was held at the Bradford Capital of Cycling hub, in Hall Ings.

Elise Fitzgerald, a member of Queensbury Queens said it had been a fantastic day.

"I was really impressed with how many people came along. Several local cycling clubs came in and our group brought in home made cakes which people bought and enjoyed.

"We had people on smoothie bikes making their own smoothie using energy they had stored from eating the cake," she said.

"One woman even called in and said she would love to cycle but was scared so we have invited her along to a monthly event we have which is open to non members and takes them to an off road area in the Spen Valley where they can have fun and build up their confidence.

"It is so exciting that the UCI Road World Championships are in the county next year and the women's race starts from Bradford. It will be great for us as a women's cycling club to come down and see professionals in the sport.

"It all goes towards inspiring people to take up cycling so they can get out and see this wonderful county."
