BRADFORD is to get a new Brazilian-style eatery in the former Brew Haus building on Great Horton Road.

Up to 35 jobs will be created in the Ginga Rodizio Bar and Grill which it is hoped will open on the weekend of October 7.

Entrepreneur Charles Hewitt, who is behind the venture, said it would be "an all-you-can-eat steak restaurant".

He added: "Bradford is lacking a lot of good quality independent restaurants. It's lacking an independent choice."

Mr Hewitt has a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry and worked as an area and general manager for Living Ventures Restaurants which runs chains of eateries and bars such as Artisan, Blackhouse, Gusto and Red Door.

"This is my first venture. It's an exciting time, I'm a little bit nervous."

He said it was a shame the Brew Haus did not work out but it meant that the building - the former Victorian Windsor baths which JD Wetherspoon once ran as The Sir Titus Salt pub - was in good condition and did not need any major conversion work.

"It's been left in quite a good state but needs a good clean," he said. "It will look clean and shiny and brand new.

"We will be swapping furniture over and installing new equipment in the kitchen.

"We've invested £12,000 in a rodizio grill which cooks the meat over charcoal.

"It will be an open kitchen so people will be able to see the cooking in action."

Mr Hewitt said the grill could accommodate up to 50 joints of meat at one time with several different cuts of beef, chicken, sausages and more meats on offer.

There will also be a hot and cold salad bar where customers will be able to serve themselves.

The Ginga - which is named after an ancient Brazilian martial art and the country's free-flowing style of football - will serve locally-sourced meats in traditional Brazilian style cooked to a customer's choice.

In the rodizio style, the meats will be cooked on the rotisserie and then brought to the table where they will be sliced onto the plate. Diners will have a card which they can turn over to indicate they want more meat.

The Ginga will be open seven days a week, from noon to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Mr Hewitt said he had more than 400 applications for the staff roles and will be interviewing applicants this week.

The Brew Haus closed in February, two and a half years after it opened. It was as part of a £1.2million development of the old Windsor baths.
