AFTER it was revealed on Friday that the University of Bradford has dropped 23 places in a national newspaper's university rankings, full details of the ratings have now been published.

The University of Bradford dropped to 98th place out of 132 institutions in the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019, after being ranked 75th in last year's list.

The Guide has now been published, revealing the areas where the University performs badly and strongly.

Bradford received a teaching quality rating of 74.7 per cent in the guide, ranking it 120th in the country, and student experience also dropped to joint 99th place at 75.6 per cent.

Other areas where it performed disappointingly were is completion rate for degrees, with 82.1 per cent leaving it in 95th place, and its student-staff ratio of 16.8 students per every one staff member left it in 90th place.

The services/facilities spend of £2,021 put Bradford in 85th place, and its research quality of 9.2 per cent was rated joint 63rd.

Areas were the university improved were its graduate prospects of 82.8 per cent, seeing it rise to 25th in the country, and the number of students getting Firsts and 2:1s in their courses at 77.3 per cent, lifting the university to 47th place.

Bradford's world ranking has also risen, from joint-601st last year to joint-591st.

Of its 8,243 students, 93.7 per cent come from state schools, with 4.3 per cent from grammar schools and 2 per cent from independent schools.

Mature students make up 22 per cent of the student population, with 15.6 per cent of students coming from deprived areas, 4.9 per cent from the European Union, and 9.7 per cent from outside of Europe.

Bradford scored highly for social inclusion, placing 11th in the country, and 20 places higher than the next Yorkshire university. Ethnic minorities make up 72.2 per cent of students at the university, making it the second top university in the country for ethnic students.

Of other universities in Yorkshire, Leeds placed highest in 11th, followed by York in 22nd, Sheffield in 25th, Leeds Arts in 54th, Huddersfield in 62nd, Sheffield Hallam in 67th, Leeds Trinity in joint-87th, Hull in 103rd, and Leeds Beckett in 124th.

In the Guide, it noted Bradford "remains highly rated in health subjects", despite its bid to open a medical school next year being rejected.

A University of Bradford spokesperson said: "While disappointing to see such fluctuations in annual rankings, it is pleasing to see that Bradford continues to be one of the best universities in the region for preparing our students well for both professional employment and postgraduate study, with consistently high numbers of our graduates progressing successfully to both work and further study."
