NORTHERN Powergrid has been working to restore power to 19,100 homes in Yorkshire affected by Storm Bronagh which hit the region overnight on Thursday.

The storm, the second the electricity network company has faced this week, predominantly affected the Yorkshire area with heavy rain and strong overnight winds and has now passed into the North Sea.

Rod Gardner, Northern Powergrid’s head of network operations, said: “Our teams have worked through the night restoring power for our customers and our robust preparations meant that we were ready to mobilise our teams to carry out necessary works to repair damage caused by Storm Bronagh overnight.

“We’re reminding people that if they do spot any damage to our cables or other equipment not to approach the area, but to report it immediately by calling 105.
