TWO care services have cause for celebration following visits from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The Anchor Trust-run Ashcroft, based at Kelvin Way, Undercliffe, received the good rating overall, but was judged to be outstanding in the caring category.

And Kalcrest Care, Eldon Place, Manningham, was also judged to be good, two years on from being placed in special measures after an inadequate rating.

Inspectors said that “without exception” people told them that Ashcroft was a good home and staff were kind, caring and treated people with respect.

The report said: “The service was exceptionally caring. Everyone we spoke with was very complimentary about the service and said they would recommend the home.

“There was a strongly embedded culture within the service of treating people with dignity and respect.

“This was supported by a number of dignity champions.”

Dignity champions are people who have done additional training to support the entire staff team in ensuring residents are treated with dignity and respect.

More staff are due to be trained in this role, the report said.

Home Manager Emma Ciccone said the home was thrilled with the outcome because of the hard work put in to maintain high standards of care.

She said: “We have worked hard to make Ashcroft a good care home but to be given such praise from the regulator is wonderful. We are proud of the meals which are made from fresh seasonal ingredients and the high levels of training and support our staff receive.”

Kalcrest Care is a domiciliary care agency, providing personal care to people living intheir own houses and flats.

The CQC report said: “At the last inspection in May 2017 we rated the service requires improvement and found three breaches of regulation relating to safe care and treatment, person-centred care and good governance.

“Following the last inspection, we asked the provider to complete an action plan to show what they would do and by when to improve the key questions; is the service safe well led to at least good.

“At this inspection we found further improvements had been made and the service was no longer in breach of any regulations.”

It added: “Overall people provided positive feedback about the service and said it had continued to improve. People said they felt safe and secure in the company of staff.

“People said staff were kind and caring and treated them well.”

While an overall rating of good was given, Kalcrest Care was told it needed to improve its responsiveness, with work needed to ensure people receive care at a consistent time each day.

A Kalcrest Care spokesperson said: “Kalcrest Care are happy with the report and would like to thank the dedication and hard work from everyone, this has resulted in a far more positive report from CQC.”
