SIR - The T&A's recent report on fines for a property rubbish dumping culminated in advice from Bradford Council. This was simply relevant vehicle details and number plates, and any other information and the council will act on fly-tipping.

This does not seem to apply to all offenders. Why? The recent spate of traveller congregations invading private property and recreation areas, not a new event, does not seem to attract the above strict rules. Not only is damage caused but the inevitable rubbish is left with careless abandon. The council`s reaction seems always to be, well they have now moved on to annoy somebody else, we will now move in and spend taxpayers' money restoring the property to as was.

Surely the rules stated by them should apply. I cannot believe that when travellers arrive, their vehicle details, names etc are not recorded by council or police. That would make those rules easy to apply.

But what seems to apply is nothing, with local councillors making friendly noises saying, the travellers are “nice people” and “useful”. As true as that may be, it appears the law does not apply equally to all.
