A STALLED development of extra care apartments in Saltaire is not dead in the water - councillors have been assured.

In 2014 plans to redevelop the former site of the Neville Grange Resource Centre on Queens Road were approved by Bradford Council.

They would see 45 extra care apartments for the elderly built on the site, along with 20 intermediate care units and associated facilities including a restaurant/cafe.

The development was going to be a partnership between Incommunities, Adult Services and the NHS, but when Incommunities pulled out it left the scheme in limbo.

Neville Grange had been demolished to make way for the scheme, and the land remains vacant. Planning permission has since expired.

At a meeting of Bradford Council's Regeneration and Environment Scrutiny Committee this week, members were told that despite the inaction, there were still plans to develop care services on the site.

Councillor Martin Love (Green, Shipley) questioned the progress of the site during a discussion on affordable and specialist housing projects.

Lorraine Wright, housing officer, said it was a "great site" that was still earmarked for a care facility.

She said the Council's Executive will be discussing revised plans in the near future.
