AN application to turn the former offices of a Bradford independent school into a shop has been submitted to Bradford Council.

The Old Sunday School building, on Bakes Street, just off Great Horton Road has more recently been used as offices for the Ummid Project charity.

But the building was closed last year following a damning Ofsted inspection into the school.

Ummid operated over three sites, and the Bakes Street building was used as offices as well as for teaching pupils from Bradford and have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools.

The building and another location in Halifax shut shortly after the inspection in Summer 2017. Inspectors judged Ummid Independent School inadequate in every area, saying it needed to urgently improve as it did not meet the requirements of the independent school standards.

The new planning application has been submitted by a Mr Ahmed from JNS Motorspares. It is to change the use of the building to retail, with two full time and two part time staff based in the business.

The application says the opening hours would be 9am to 6pm.

A decision on the application is expected in late October.
