THREE people were taken to hospital with minor injuries following a six-vehicle pile-up on the M62 last night.

Fire crews from Cleckheaton technical rescue service were called to the eastbound carriageway between junctions 23 and 24 at 9.20pm to reports of the collision.

A spokesman for the fire service said police and highways attended after a car had spun on the motorway causing six vehicles behind it to collide.

"The car that spun had ended up facing the other direction but had driven off when we got there and an HGV which had also stopped was allowed on its way.

"There were three passengers with minor injuries in one of the cars and they went to hospital.

"We are not sure what caused the car to spin but there may have been standing water on the carriageway due to the poor weather conditions.

"One lane was kept open during recovery of the vehicles but it did cause tail backs for quite a while."
