BEEKEEPERS are being kept busy in the run up to next month's Wiltshire Bee and Honey Day.

The annual event sees apiarists from across the county are sell their honey, swap tales and offer advice to those interested in getting into the world of beekeeping.

Organiser Sophie Chalmers said: "For those familiar with Game of Thrones, there will be a chance to taste their thirst quencher of choice - mead - as well as honey beer brewed especially for the day by Rowde microbrewery Devitera.

"Other activities include: candle rolling, face painting and exploring inside a virtual hive.

"There's also a selection of bee-related products including honey, candles and cosmetics, bee-friendly plants and seeds on sale from a variety of suppliers."

Beekeeper Richard Rickitt will guide novices through the basics of keeping bees, while scientist Prof Phil Stevenson will explain how farmers are developing brand-new strawberry varieties by lacing nectar with tiny traces of caffeine.

"It seems even bees like their daily fix," said Sophie.

The Wiltshire Bee and Honey Day will be at the Devizes Corn Exchange on Saturday, October 6.
