Homeowners are constantly looking for ways to keep their homes safe from burglary.

After News Shopper spoke to Bexley’s police borough commander Simon Dobinson about burglaries, it was confirmed that reported incidents are on the rise.

A weekly update from the Bexley Borough Neighbourhood Watch Group this week has collected reports from policing wards across the borough to detail crime from the week.

News Shopper has mapped the week’s reported burglaries and attempted burglaries, as given by police officers.

1) Broom Mead, Bexleyheath, September 17: The house alarm was activated and a neighbour discovered an attempted break-in.

2) Oakley Park, Bexley, September 13: Between 9am and 6.30pm, a door was damaged but the house was not entered.

3) Rowley Avenue, Sidcup, September 15: Attempted burglary and criminal damage to a motor vehicle was reported. Two suspects dressed in black and wearing balaclavas were spotted climbing out of a garden. When confronted, one of them smashed a car windscreen with a brick.

4) Cumberland Avenue, Welling, September 13-15: Attempted burglary where suspects tried to get in the front door with a crowbar.

5) Langdon Shaw, Sidcup, September 18: Victim confronted four men inside his house who had got in the front door using a crowbar. Some of the men were armed with weapons. They stole several Rolex watches, jewellery, cash and an iPhone 7 (an estimated total of £125,000). They fled in a dark coloured Audi saloon.

6) Upperton Road, Sidcup, September 19: Neighbours heard an alarm go off, and ran outside to see a man dressed in dark clothing and a balaclava running from the house. He jumped in a 4x4 and fled the scene.

7) Moat Lane, Sidcup, September 15: Attempted burglary in which tool marks were seen by a front window that would not close properly.

8) Wolvercote Road, September 15: The front door of a flat had its locks damaged but no one managed to enter.

9) West Heath policing ward: One burglary was reported on September 12 and an attempted burglary was reported on September 18.
