A PIECE of artwork by a sixth form student from Culcheth has been selected to feature on the front cover of a craft catalogue.

Lauren Whitaker, a year 12 student at Bolton School Girls’ Division, created the piece, called Camden, which will appear on the 2019 Specialist Crafts catalogue, published in January next year.

Lauren will receive a £100 Specialist Crafts voucher and the Girls' Division art department will also receive a £100 Specialist Crafts voucher.

Lauren, whose piece was chosen from a field of national entries, said: "Camden was a part of my GCSE coursework from the topic 'architecture'.

"Usually I enjoy creating hyper-realistic art work however when researching for the topic I was inspired by Rupert Van Wyk to venture away from this style and try something more simplistic.

"To create my art I made a digital line drawing using Adobe Draw app on my iPad, based on a picture I took in London, printed it on canvas, painted the parts I wanted to stand out in watercolour and finally stitched the silhouettes of people in front of the bridge.

"I created the layered effect of the silhouettes by taking many photos in the same place and stitching a different person from each picture.

"I aimed to create a busy London scene in my art and to show how everyone is connected,by creating them all using thread, but individual by using different coloured thread for each person."
