PLANS to build holiday homes in the car park of a rural pub have been refused by Bradford Council.
An application to construct three small holiday flats on the site of The New Inn, on Keighley Road, Denholme, was submitted by a Mr Garvey earlier this year.
It would see part of the pub’s ground floor become manager’s accommodation and the pub’s first floor turned into a flat. The business would continue to operate as a pub.
Each single storey holiday flat would have had bedroom, bathroom and lounge/kitchen.
The plans had the support of Denholme Town Council, which said the holiday flats would be “beneficial to both the village and the local area.”
But the scheme raised concerns with highways officers. They said the holiday flats, the pub, and flat above the pub would require 21 parking spaces. The plans only include 10 parking spaces.
Refusing the plans this week, officers said it would “result in cars parking on the road further exacerbating the highway safety issues that would be raised by the proposal.
"The proposal fails to provide suitable parking and turning facilities within the site to serve the development likely to lead to an increase in on-street parking and/or vehicles reversing onto or from a busy classified road. This is likely to result in conditions prejudicial to pedestrian and highway safety."
