A NURSERY in Clayton has retained its ‘Good’ rating following a recent Ofsted inspection.

Green Top Day Nursery, in Clayton Lane, was rated good in all areas in the visit on August 31.

In the inspection report, Ofsted praised management for aiming to “continually improve the quality of the nursery”, and staff were praised for their work with children and relationships with parents.

It said: "Staff are sensitive and nurturing as they help young children understand what is expected of them.

"Older children play cooperatively, share and are polite. Staff work very well to successfully help them develop an understanding of the feelings of others.

"Staff promote all children's independence very well. Young children confidently set the table for lunch and serve themselves.

"Staff teach older children to change their clothes and put on their own shoes in readiness for school.

"Staff develop strong partnerships with parents. They keep them informed about their children's progress. Parents are complimentary about staff and feel that their children are safe and developing well.

To become an Outstanding nursery, inspectors told Green Top it needs to better analyse information about children's progress so that children's achievements can increase, and to gather more information from parents before children start nursery to help tailor their learning.

The nursery has space for 89 children, and employs ten members of staff, eight of whom have early years qualifications of Level 3 or higher.
