A MAJOR Bradford business has stepped in to help an adventure playground which was torched in a suspected arson attack.

Firefighters were called to the Eccleshill Adventure Playground, also known as the Big Swing Adventure Playground, at the beginning of the month where an indoor play space dubbed the ‘hobbit house’ was ablaze.

The charity, which delivers free adventure play sessions across the Bradford district, often in under-privileged areas of the city, was left devastated by the fire but vowed to get back up and running.

It was estimated around £50,000 worth of damage was caused by the blaze, obliterating the scheme’s indoor play space beyond repair.

But the charity has now issued a heartfelt thanks to Uriah Woodhead following a donation of timber.

Playground coordinator Jenny Turner said: “ This donation will help us get up and running after the arson attack we recently suffered.

“It was a lovely gesture, they have gone out of their way to help us at this challenging time and we are incredibly grateful.”

She added: “It’s a valuable resource and it’s very generous of them to do that.”

The playground is still not open to the public following the fire and they are still waiting for the damaged to be assessed and for the building to be demolished.

Tracy Clavin, a manager at Uriah Woodhead, based on Valley Road, said the donation reflected the ethos of being a well-established family company built on firm foundations.

She said: “It’s a brilliant project they do in the community and the people they who get involved with.

“It was a pleasure to be able to support them to rebuild what they have lost there.”

It’s thought around £50,000 worth of damage was caused by the fire, tainting what was described as a “fantastic” summer for the charity.

But the team praised the outpouring of community support and offers of help.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to help the charity.
