A brave mum has spoken about her harassment ordeal in a bid to persuade others to stand up for themselves.
Fozia Mukhtar, 33, was left feeling shocked and scared when a relative smashed her car with a baseball bat following a family dispute.
Shakil Ahmed, 36, of Park View Road, Manningham, Bradford, is part of Ms Mukhtar’s family.
He was fined £900, made subject to a three year restraining order and a five month curfew from 6pm to 6am after pleading guilty to the criminal damage on September 4.
Ms Mukhtar, from Lynfield Drive, claimed the attack on her Volkswagen Golf car, in May, was a bid to try and stop the single mum-of-two from speaking out against her extended family, but she remained defiant.
She said: “I was terrified about it because my children were asleep upstairs when this happened.
“He got out of the car with a baseball bat and smashed the windows about eight or nine times.
“He knew I was a mum and had no sympathy.”
Ms Mukhtar said people tried to intimidate her, however, she had CCTV of the attack and Ahmed pleaded guilty when the case was heard in Bradford Magistrates’ Court earlier this month.
“I was persuaded to try and drop the case,” she added.
“I’m an Asian girl going to court and it was seen as a disgrace on the family.
“We have a lot of single mums living around here.
“They go through quite a lot by themselves and people don’t step up for them.”
She added: “I believe in equal rights and getting justice.
“I want people to know that it takes a lot to go to court, but after a lot of hard work, there’s justice.”
