FIRE crews had to stay with a woman for an hour waiting for an ambulance after she was injured in a crash.
The crash, involving two cars, happened almost directly outside Fairweather Green fire station in Thornton Road, at 8.15pm yesterday.
The head-on crash involved a Volkswagen Golf and an Audi A3 convertible, with both cars being damaged in the smash.
The woman, who was a back seat passenger in the Golf, which was also carrying two other people, sustained facial injuries in the crash. The other two people in the Golf and the driver of the Audi were not injured.
A spokesperson from Fairweather Green fire station said the woman who was injured had not been wearing a seatbelt.
He said: "We stayed with the woman for nearly an hour until the ambulance came, as there was a bit of a backlog.
"We had to mobilise a second engine to the scene for oxygen as we were running out.
"She was then taken to hospital by paramedics."
