THE POND in East Bierley Village is being dredged after completely drying up in the summer heat.
The village's pond is one of its main attractions but all that is left is a layer of silt, several feet deep.
A contractor, Edward Crosby, is to start work dredging on Monday to clear away the overgrown weeds that are thriving in the enriched sediment.
They will be on site from 7.30am with heavy machinery so anyone using Bierley Marsh is asked to be aware.
The work is being paid for by East Bierley Village Preservation Society.
The dredging work could take all that week. It is hoped to keep all disruption to a minimum and the society apologises for the inconvenience to local residents.
