FORMER Leeds United and Scottish international footballing legend Eddie Gray was the guest speaker at Marie Curie’s annual Development Board Sports Lunch.

The buffet style “Lunch of Two Halves” event took place today at the Midland Hotel as guests enjoyed speeches and anecdotes at what has become a popular fixture in business diaries across the district.

This was followed by live and silent auctions, a raffle and quiz to help raise money for the hospice.

Marie Curie representative and organiser of this year’s event, Clare Wood said “The funds raised will help the charity to continue to care for local people and their families. “Marie Curie is here for people living with any terminal illness, and their families.

“The charity offers expert care, guidance and support to help people get the most from the time they have left.

“It costs over £3.6 million a year to run the Bradford Hospice and almost half of this is raised through local fundraising in the community.”

The event is expected to raise in the region of £25,000.

The Hospice Development Board also host a ‘Ladies Lunch’ each May at The Midland Hotel and next year’s is planned for Friday, May 17.
