PLANS for the future of a former Bingley school house will be discussed by councillors tomorrow (Wednesday) - although much of the important details will not be made public.

In June Bradford Council agreed to sell the Priestthorpe Annexe, on Mornington Road, to a property developer.

Claiming commercial sensitivity, the Council only referred to the developer as "party D."

The likely outcome of the sale is that the derelict building would be demolished and the site redeveloped to provide 7 x 4 bed town houses.

The building is held by the Council as a Trustee of the former Bingley Science Arts and Technical School. A condition of the ownership is that it can only be used for “educational objectives which benefit both children and adults of Bingley.”

Due to this historical covenant on the building, the proceeds of the sale will go towards education in the Bingley area.

Tomorrow the Council's Regulatory and Appeals Committee will meet again as trustees to hear that Party D has decided that the building should instead be sold to its connected company, only referred to as 'Party I.'

A report to members says: "It is recommended that the Trustees authorise disposal of the property to either Party ‘’I’’ or Party D."

Once used as a training college, the 19th Century Priestthorpe building, on Mornington Road, has been largely empty since 2002, suffering from neglect to the point where the building was judged to have “nil” value by a property consultant.

For years Bingley residents and local politicians have called for something to be done with the crumbling building.

The committee meets in City Hall at noon.
