CLOSE to 80 GCSE students from schools across Yorkshire visited Bradford College this summer as part of the Class of 2024 Higher Education Summer School organised by Go Higher West Yorkshire.

The teenagers spent one day taking part in subject taster sessions at the college and the University of Bradford.

Bradford schools represented in the group were Appleton Academy, Bradford Academy, Dixons Trinity, Carlton Bolling and Immanuel College.

Students got the chance to try performing arts, teaching, media makeup and social care in the workshops.

The three-day programme is organised with 12 West Yorkshire universities and colleges by Go Higher West Yorkshire to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds progress to higher education.

Roy Ward is the National Collaborative Outreach Programme Outreach Officer at Bradford College.

He said: “The Go Higher West Yorkshire Summer School is always one of the highlights of our year.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for young people to get a unique insight into what Higher Education is like.

“They learn about the range of options available to them, including Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships and they get to stay away from home and learn about the more social side of being a student.”
