FILMING for a Bollywood movie is getting underway in Bradford today.

Camera crews have been spotted on Hall Ings, at the side of the The Broadway shopping centre, shooting stunt and car chase scenes for the third film in the Commando action-thriller series.

It stars Vidyut Jamwal, who was recently named one of the world's top martial artists.

The latest film follows Commando: A One Man Army and Commando: The Black Money Trail.

In the first film, Jamwal's character Karanveer Singh Dogra, or Karan, a commando with the Indian Army, crashes into Chinese territory.

After being detained for a year, he manages to escape and, as he crosses the Punjab border, meets a girl called Simrit who is trying to escape the clutches of MP Amrit Kanwal Singh or, AK-74, who wants to marry her for political gains.

The second film follows his mission to eradicate black money.

It's thought the third film will be based in London.

The crew has been in Bradford for a couple of days, also shooting scenes in Great Horton. They are also planning to shoot some scenes in York.

Speaking about filming in the city, production manager Raj Panwar said: "It is really nice, people are very helpful."

Some scenes will also be shot in television and film hotspot Little Germany, which has recently provided the backdrop for BBC dramas Gentleman Jack and The ABC Murders.

David Wilson, director of Bradford UNESCO City of Film, said meetings had been underway over the last two to three months to ensure the necessary plans were in place to accommodate the filming of stunt scenes.

He said Bradford's reputation as a "film-friendly" city continues to grow with each successful production.

Filming for the movie comes off the back of the recent release of Gold, the inspirational story of India’s first Olympic success as an independent nation, which was shot at Bradford’s Midland Hotel, Lister Park, Dalton Mills, Keighley, Little Germany and Odsal Stadium.

It starred Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and featured 2,000 local extras.
