A 15-YEAR-OLD terror suspect has appeared in court accused of making an explosive substance.

The boy, who cannot be named, is alleged to have made a pair of “carbon dioxide canisters, drilled and clipped together”.

He is also accused of having a copy of the “Anarchist’s Corner” on his computer, which is alleged to be a document useful to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism.

The teenager, from Bradford, appeared at the Old Bailey in London yesterday wearing a grey tracksuit.

He stood in the dock, answering “correct” when asked to confirm his name and date of birth.

When asked his nationality, the boy answered: “British, white.”

The court heard he faces two charges.

The first, under Section 4 of the Explosives Act 1883, states he made an explosive substance “under such circumstances as to give rise to a reasonable suspicion that you were not making it for a lawful object” between May 1 and August 10.

He is also charged with possession of a document or record for the purposes of terrorism under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 on August 10, when he was arrested by the Counter Terrorism Policing North East team.

Mr Justice Haddon-Cave said the teenager faces a two-week trial early next year.

Although yesterday’s hearing took place in the capital, the trial looks set to be held closer to home, with the trial set for Leeds Crown Court on February 18.

The judge remanded the boy in custody and told him he will next appear for a plea hearing.

That hearing is due to take place in Leeds on January 7.
