VOLUNTEERS in Greengates and Apperley Bridge will be descending on the River Aire next weekend.

Working with Bradford Council, the big clean up of the river and the areas around the Harrogate Road bridge will take place between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, September 8.

All volunteers will be supplied with equipment to clear rubbish, and a specialist contractor will remove debris from the river which is lodged against the bridge.

Mike Frazer, pictured, secretary of Greengates and Apperley Bridge Volunteers, said: “We have had many expressions of interest from individuals and families and all they need to bring is a pair of gloves.

“This is another example of this community coming together for the greater good.”

A free community lunch will follow at the George and Dragon pub in Apperley Road.
