TWO seven-bedroom homes can be built in a "backwater" hamlet near Baildon.

A Council planning committee approved an application for the houses at Tong Park despite objections from neighbours, local councillors, and even Shipley MP Philip Davies.

Bradford Council's Keighley and Shipley Area Planning Panel discussed the plans at a meeting on Wednesday, and heard from objectors who feared the development would lead to dangerous traffic conditions on the unadopted road leading to the land.

Committee members heard that the site was a "rural backwater" that currently was home to just a handful of properties.

One objector, Councillor Debbie Davies (Cons, Baildon) said her main concern was access to the remote site, and pointed out that the seven bedroom homes would lead to the number of people driving on the unadopted road increasing. She added: "The residents won't be using public transport."

The application, submitted by J Fern, J Archer and W B Todhunter, was approved by members.
