CAMPING chairs, selfie sticks and unsealed food will be banned from this weekend’s Bingley Music Live Festival.

Bradford Council, which runs the festival, has announced a number of changes to this year’s event, including a larger space at the Discovery Stage.

And a number of items have been added to the banned list.

The Council says the decision to stop revellers from bringing in unsealed food is to “avoid people smuggling in contraband.”

And the decision to stop people bringing chairs into the site was: “Based on feedback from previous festivals and to ensure the safety of festivalgoers in the unlikely event that the arena needs to be evacuated in an emergency.”

Previous years have seen many festivalgoers bringing camping chairs and picnic blankets to claim their spot in Myrtle Park through the day.

A spokesman added: “Organisers have ensured that there will be plenty of picnic tables and hay-bales, in areas away from the main arena, so that people who need to can take a rest.”

Other banned items include selfie sticks, umbrellas, megaphones and drones.

Acts at this year’s festival include Noel Gallagher’s Highflying Birds, Jake Bugg, Shed Seven, The Cribs, Ride, Melanie C, Lightning Seeds, Public Image Limited, local Bingley musicians Marmozets and numerous others.

As well as headline acts, the festival will also feature food from around the world and bars serving gin, real ale and cocktails as well as market stalls and a children’s area to explore.

Bradford Council says this year’s festival will offer people the widest choice of food in the festival’s history, with dishes from around the globe. There will also be healthy options on offer, as well as food to suit a variety of dietary requirements.

Sunday will feature a fancy dress theme of ‘big hair and tutus’. People are invited to go wild with the theme so whether it’s a beehive, bouffant or an afro, people are encouraged to channel their inner ballerina.
