PLANS to build two seven bedroom houses in Baildon, which have attracted objections from the local MP, are likely to be approved on Wednesday.

Shipley MP Philip Davies was just one of 14 objections to the plans for two detached dwellings on land at Tong Park Street.

The application, by J Fern, J Archer and W B Todhunter will be decided by Bradford Council's Keighley and Shipley Area Planning Panel next week.

Despite the objections, planning officers have recommended the development be approved.

Mr Davies claimed access to the site was poor, that there was considerable wildlife in the vicinity, and that "Two large, modern houses would ruin the historic hamlet of Tong Park."

Other objectors pointed out that the road was not suitable for more traffic and could set a precedent for other developments on nearby plots of land.

A planning report into the application says: "It is located within an established residential area which, whilst, seeming somewhat remote, is actually very close to the services and facilities of Baildon/Lower Baildon.

"Given the shortage of land for housing across the Metropolitan District and the thrust of the National Planning Policy Framework towards increasing the supply of housing, there seems no reason why such site, located within the limits of the built up area, would not be suitable for housing.

"The Council’s Core Strategy Development Plan Document has highlighted that there is a need to provide 350 additional homes within Baildon by 2030 and this site would provide a useful, though small contribution to the Council’s house building targets and reduce the need to release green belt land.

The Panel meets in Keighley Town Hall on Wednesday at 10am.
