STUDENTS at a city centre college have raised £500 for a local food bank.

The students at Forster College, in Little Germany, raised the money for Bradford Central Food Bank by running a tuck shop.

The money collected from this adds to the monthly gifts of hampers put together by students and staff for the food bank.

Chris Baillie, college manager, handed the donation over to Laura-Jo Sanby from the food bank.

She said: “Forster College is proud to support this vital charity.

“Many of our students receive benefits and live in some of the most deprived areas of the city so are aware of the essential help offered by the food bank and are keen to offer their support when they can."

Ms Sanby, from the Captain Street-based food bank, added: “We are so so grateful for the donations from Forster College as we see more and more local families each week.

"Without the food bank most of these families wouldn't have been able to eat, and give away £1,000 of food each week."
